Stage 2

After having developed the iPad app during Stage 1, students from Queensbridge Primary School, Reepham High School and Great Ormond Street Hospital very kindly helped us to test the app. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the children, their parents and the staff in the three schools. Without you the project wouldn’t have been possible!

Children’s views about their health were presented in either 3 of 5 ways:

These different ways of asking were compared within different age groups, and these comparisons will help us to see whether or not animated methods are the most effective.

In total, we have collected data from 169 pupils from Queensbridge Primary School and 217 patients from Great Ormond Street Hospital. The patients from Great Ormond Street Hospital had a wide range of health conditions, including disorders in urology, haematology, orthopaedics and rheumatology.

We have collected data from 3 different age groups:

  • 4 – 7 year olds
  • 7-11 year olds
  • 11-14 year olds

This helps us to see whether the use of animation is also effective in older age groups who may be more accomplished readers.
